vRealize Automation and NSX – Better Together

One of the hottest topics in the world of software-defined everything is unequivocally NSX. This rocketship of a technology is fundamentally changing datacenter design — much like vSphere so effectively did (except at a greater pace). NSX redefines how networks are built, consumed, and managed. Even more importantly, security no longer has to be compromised due to the the prohibitive cost of per-application policies. And best of all, this all done with software. That’s a good thing since we’re at the start of a software-defined revolution, quickly breaking out of our hardware-defined chains.

Deploy and configure VMware NSX in 23 minutes

VMware NSX is completely software based. This means it’s flexible as heck and you can have a lot of instances running concurrently. It also means you can go crazy with your network topology designs and amount of tinkering you can do with your virtual network. I am someone who loves to tinker. Sometimes a bit too much. A consequence of this, is that I sometimes break my virtual test lab and have to re-install it and return to the starting point. This has happened a few times.

vRealize Business for Cloud 7.0.1 -…

vRealize Business has been around for a while, but i tend to find that people either don’t really know much about it, or those who have bought it as part of vCloud Suite rarely implement it, and thats a real shame because with very little time and effort you can get some really useful information out of it. So, i’m going to attempt to show you in this article how to deploy it and configure it.

VMware vRealize Automation: Service Catalog & Entitlement

What is Service Catalog in vRealize Automation.

The service catalog is a self-service portal where users can browse and request items that they need like Virtual Machine, Machine on AWS or it could be on physical box and many more, track their requests, and manage their provisioned items.

Let’s See how to create Service Catalog then we will see how to create vm by using Service Catalog.

1. Login into URL: http://IP-or-FQDN/vcac with tenant-admin@vclass.local

Here in Administrator Tab you can See Catalog Management click on that.

2. Click on the New Catalog and provide Details for this Catalog like.

a). Name : it could be Linux virtual machine or Windows Machine.
b). Description: Linux or CentOS
c). Icon: download the icon from internet and browse the same and select as per Name. it will help user to identify easily which OS the are provisioning
d). Status : make it as Active

VMware vRealize Automation: Blueprint

What is Blueprint in vRealize Automation.

Blueprint is a method for Machine Procurement. User doesn’t know what is happening at background, what command is running and all those we are hiding the Complexity and providing a Interface from where User just need to provide Basic Details like RAM, CPU etc.

BluePrint is used for Provisioning a Machine either from Cloud Amazon, Air, Openstack etc. or from physical or virtual ( vCenter ).

IF you are working in a organisation and there users required multiple OS and they are working with multiple flavour like Windows, CentOS, Ubuntu, Linux etc to fulfil the requirement they need virtual machine for the same.
How they can request their own choice of virtual machine. they don’t know who to create VM. here VRA blueprint help them. they just need to select the Blueprint as per the requirement and provide basic details and done.
There Machine will be ready in few mints.

Types of Blueprint: Single Machine and Multi-Machine.

Now Let’s see how to create Blueprint.

VMware vRealize Automation: Fabric Layer Configuration

Continuing to Last post we will start configuring VMware vRealize Automation Fabric layer.

What we will do in this task.

1. Create Machine Prefixes: First you have to decide what prefix you will use for the Virtual machine which will be provision via VRA.As per you company Naming Convention or Get This Answer from
Concerned Person.

2. Create Reservation Policies: You Have to create Reservation policy again as per your requirement and if demanded by any customer/support team. Here you have to provide name only.
like Production-SAP-Server-Reservation, Test-SQL-Server-Reservation etc.

3. Create a Network Policy: This is important here you have to Create Network policy and Provide Justified Name with IP Details. here you have to provide multiple details regarding Network like you
want to use External Network,NAT, Private etc.so we will see how to create and use
IP range for Servers.

4. Create a Business Group: Business Group is used to assocate services and resouces to a group of users. Here you have to define AD OU details also users details who can access and done
editing. Here reservation applied

5. Create a Reservation: If you are aware of vSphere Concept there we are creating reservation for VM’s or Creating Resource Pool so that group of VM’s can consume that much Compute Capacity. Here are
also doing same thing we are creating Reservation so that Business Group can consume
the same. We are doing Reservation in terms of Compute (RAM and CPU) and Storage.

**Note: Here you can also define Machine Quota How much machine you can create.
First you have to login with Correct User to perform these task. User is : fabric-admin@vclass.local.

1. Url remain Same http://IP-or-FQDN/vcac

2. After login you will see Goals on the left hand side.there you have to select Create Machine Prefixes.

3. Here you have to create Machine Prefixes > First click on the New Machine Prefix ( on the very Right hand side ). after that it will ask you to provide few details like Machine Prefix, Number of Digits and Next Number for your Virtual Machine.

4. Now You Are done with First Step Proceed to Next Step which is Reservation Policy.

Under the same Goal Click Create Reservation.> First on the Very Right hand side click New Reservation Policy.

Here you have to provide Name for this Policy like Mid Range, SAP, Oracle etc. Also description so that other Admin can understand the purpose of this policy. Under this option you are also allowed to create Storage policy as-well.

VMware vRealize Automation: VRA Appliance setup

What is vRealize Automation and Why Shoud i use it.

When you are working with MNC or SMB they are using hardware and software components from multiple vendors.Like HP, Dell, Cisco, SUN, Nutanix etc. If you want to create multivender cloud infrastructure in that sitaution you can use VMware vRealize™ Automation to create and manage a multivendor cloud .

vRealize Automation help your organisaton and you can achive:
1. End users can self-provision virtual machines,
2. Cloud machines,
3. Physical machines,
4. Applications, and IT services according to policies defined by administrators.

dtechinspiration-vRealize Automation

vRealize Automation (VRA) you can download as Appliance and deploy as VM.

VRA components:
1. Appliance
2. Iaas ( Windows Platform )

** There are lots of more Components we will talk later.

After deployment of Appliance initial task you have to perform as per your organisation.

1. Deploy VRA appliance and access via 5480 port. http://IPorFQDN:5480
